Admissions Process FAQ
Children are usually admitted to school at the beginning of the school year in which their 5th birthday falls. Formal applications are accepted from September of the previous year and must be submitted by the end of December. Completed applications should be returned to the school or sent direct to School Admissions,
Application packs are available from the school. You can also apply on-line by logging on to www.gildersomeprimary.org.uk
Children can be admitted from whichever nursery or playgroup they have attended. A formal application must be made. Only one application form is to be submitted. On the form you may list up to three ranked preferences for a school. Applications for schools in other Local Authorities must also be put on this form.
How decisions are made:
If there are fewer applicants than there are available places then all applicants will be offered a place.
If there are more applicants than there are places available, then priority will be given to children whose parents have made Gildersome Primary School their first preference . Where there are more applications for admission than places available, the following ranked criteria will be used to determine which children will be allocated places:
- Children with Statements of Special Educational Needs where the statement names Gildersome Primary.
- Children in public care
- Where there will be an older brother or sister in attendance at the school at the date of admission.
- Children with a special medical condition. Any relevant medical condition must be made known at the time the application for a place is made. A medical certificate is required if the application is to be considered on this basis.
- The measure of the straight line distance from the school to the home address of the child. Available places will be allocated to those applicants living the nearest.
Before completing an application form parents/guardians are always welcome to visit the school in order to talk to the Headteacher and to see the school in action.
Application for school places in year groups other than reception
Parents should contact the school to enquire if there are places available in the relevant year group. Names can be held on a waiting list for all year groups. Names on waiting lists are ranked in accordance with the same criteria as for admission to reception.
