Happy New Year, we hope you all had a good Christmas or just a relaxing break with your family.

Back to reality this week and the children were all excited to be seeing their friends again.

We have got back into our routines really well. This week we introduced a new activity into our already packed daily timetable. The children previously had been coming into school and just writing their names before selecting their lunch choices. We are now asking them to expand on this and are having to complete a morning task, this could be either a writing task or a number task. We cant stress enough how important it is to make sure the children are in school on time so they can complete this without having to lose any of their choosing.

Some of our activities have still been holiday orientated, we have wrote some sentences for our news wall about what we did over the holidays as well as writing to letters to say thankyou for gifts that the children received.

We have been looking at number 6 and concentrating on number sentences both addition and subtraction.

Friday saw snow again for us and we don't know how many more times throughout the winter period we will get downfalls, please can I ask again that the children are dressed appropriately for the weather as this never stops us from accessing the outdoor area.

Just a reminder of the opening times of the doors we will opening them at 8.45 and closing them promptly at 8.55 and if they are locked you will have to take your child through the office entrance.

Autumn 2 Week 7

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Had a bit of a wind down this week for Christmas.

We still have had some activities to complete but the children have just enjoyed playing.

Thursday saw our Christmas Party, we saw some lovely outfits. The children enjoyed playing corners, pass the parcel and a dancing competition. The children then enjoyed their food with friends before we had a very special visitor. We sang songs to Santa before we all got given a lovely present to pop under the tree. I am sure they all had a really good time.

Reception staff want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the new year.

Autumn 2 week 6

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Wow we never slow down in reception. Another busy week.

Our children did amazing in their nativity, hopefully you have received the link to watch and are able to share this with your child.

With Christmas around the corner all our activities have a Christmassy feel. We have wrapped presents in a workshop, made wrapping paper in the painting area and wrote lists again to Santa.

We have also had the dressing up outfits where our children have dressed up as Santa or snowmen.

On Thursday some children enjoyed a Christmas lunch where we also had Christmas music and singing for all to enjoy. Finally Friday was our Christmas Jumper day where we all wore our jumpers, we talked about them at carpet time too. Because it’s Friday we have watched a film about Elf on a shelf so your child might talk about this.

The homework which was brought home is to last over the holidays and brought back in the new year. They have received a book from the book trust which is the child’s book to keep, we don’t want it back!!!!
While we are waiting for a delivery of new level 3 books there is the Oxford owls website with books of that level on, all children have a log on in the back of their reading record, please have a look!
One more week to go!!!!

Autumn 2 week 5

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Christmas arrived in Reception this week with lots of activities that the children really enjoyed.

We also had snow which the children found fun whilst it last!

In the classroom we have decorated the Christmas tree in the home corner, decorated the Christmas tree in the playdough.

We have made baubles and springy decorations. Some children have been writing what they want for Christmas in the writing area.

The children have been learning lots more sounds and harder to read and spell words as well as looking at the number 6 in their maths lessons.

This week we have also managed to get onto the stage in the hall to practice our nativity.

Please if your child has brought lines home to learn that you practice these!

Also if we do have snow we like the children to be in wellies, this stops the children sitting around in wet feet as we only have a few changes!

All children have a wellie box in the cloakroom so we can keep them in school!

autumn 2 week 4

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

This week we had a shuffle of the activities outside. The children loved exploring the construction things in the new area. They spent a long time building various things.

We introduced subtraction using various things like ducks in ponds and bricks.

We continued to talk about the British animals in our country and write about them.

We have made homes for the animals in our making area and a few children painted pictures of them.

We continue to add Phonemes or digraphs ( sounds ) in phonics as well as more harder to read and spell words. Please keep an eye in book bags for these coming home on Fridays as learning these at home as well as at school is helpful.

We had an important visitor into school on Wednesday to watch our phonic lesson and also he listened to a few of Mrs Morris' class read. We were really impressed with how the children behaved and showed him how our learning is coming on. Well done everyone!

Please can I just remind parents that the weather is turning and so can't stress enough how important it is for the children to be dressed appropriately in coats with maybe hats and gloves. We do go out in any weather!!!

Butterflies

Anna Head (a.head) on: Reception Blog - 2019-20

This term Reception are looking at life cycles and this week we have looked at butterflies.

The children have learnt about how the butterfly lays  eggs and what happens to them next.

We have created work showing the life cycle.

.

We also wrote about the different parts of the cycle. Writing some brilliant sentences using all the sounds we know.

We loved labelling the different parts of a butterfly

The children then explored creating butterfly art.

We even went outside to find different butterflies

Wonder what life cycle we will look at next week?
