Autumn 2 week 3

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

This week you should received a copy of the evening post which I hope you have seen our classes in.

We started the week with the children coming into school wearing odd socks for anti bullying. We had some vocabulary words around bullying and learnt a lot about being kind within our seal lessons.

We have looked at different things in maths this week, we have explored doubling numbers and introducing number 5.

We have changed the ending to our story and chose our own British animal.

In our art we have collaged and painted pictures of the animals.

We have done some lovely physical activities outside. They played with the different bats, sticks and balls, passing to each other. They also played hide and seek looking for each other and counting.

In our tough spots we have had magnets where we investigated which materials the magnets stuck to. We have also looked at materials and describing them and grouping.

Friday was children in need and the children dressed with spots along with their uniform. Thankyou for the donations we will get a total out to you as soon as the monies have been counted.

Just a quick reminder about reading books. We change the books on a Friday but unfortunately we can only do this if they have been read 3 times. We cant stress enough how important it is reading with your child at home. Thank you!!!

Autumn term 2 week 2

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

I wonder if your children are tired this week. I know I am because we have crammed a lot into our week again, but it’s all been lots of fun!

We started our week by looking at all the provision we had on offer. some of the things were around Remembrance Sunday and armistice day.

We made poppies with college, cutting out and poppy words.

We had mark making in the malleable area with shaving foam and paint. we explored shadows with the torches.

For our current topic we are looking at the different animals, so our story is One snowy night with Percy the park keeper. We have the animals to build homes for in the construction areas and split pin animals in the making area.

After learning about Diwali last week, we began to make diva lamps in the craft area too, the children really enjoyed moulding and etching these lamps, they are drying at the moment but hopefully next week they will be finished to bring home.

On Thursday we had the treat of being included in the rocksteady workshop which left the children all very excited, they then paused at 11 for silence to remember the fallen.

Friday is our celebration day where we celebrate our achievements, this week we have had house point winners again, our stars but also our first Numbot certificates were handed out.

Well done to all children though we are so proud of you, keep up the hard work!!

Autumn 2 Week 1

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Welcome back after the half term. The children had lots to tell us about what they had been doing over the holidays and also Halloween.

This week we have learnt about the number 4 and also part part whole models. We have learnt another set of sounds and harder to read and spell words.

We have had 2 new vocabulary words to learn about magnificent and celebration. We have looked at a couple of celebrations in our learning. We learnt about the celebration of Diwali and bonfire night. We have made Rangoli patterns on hands and also different fire work pictures.

This week we have introduced 'mini-me challenges'. The children have a mini picture of themselves on a specific challenge of the day, some of these challenges can be just as simple as putting the correct animals into their habitats, then we have other challenges that may be a little trickier for some like the conker phonic challenge where they use the conker letters to write out the given picture. This helps the children visit areas that they may not normally access and enhance their learning.

Also this week we have began to think about Christmas and a performance. We all got together on the carpet to listen and try and join in one of the songs that will be performed. More information on this will come in later weeks.

Lastly we have had our weekly celebration assembly where we come together to congratulate each other on our achievements, lots more certificates handed out. We looked at the leader boards on the Numbots activity and noticed that not many people have accessed this here is the link to the website needed and you all should have a log on in the back of the reading log, the children can access this themselves and helps with maths and math skills whilst trying to earn credits to build a robot ( very good education game for them to play).

Week 7 last week of half term

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Wow what an end to the half term. The children have learnt alot and cant keep saying enough how pleased we are of the progress they have made. It was an eventful and busy end. We had an halloween theme to the class acitvities this week. Lots of exciting pumpkins were made from playdough, shapes, drawing and also apple printing.

The children also enjoyed dressing up as various things with the clothes in the role play area.

We have looked at shape in our maths lessons, telling us what they know about the properties and names of 2D shapes but also learning about some 3D shapes, cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and cone. Ask your child if they can remember any that they learnt or maybe over half term have a shape hunt and see how many you can find on your travels or even just in your house.

We finished off our topic this week by ordering our photos and writing about how we have changed. Its been lovely learning about your child.

We recapped over the phonemes we have learnt this half term and most children are now read blending which is brilliant. Parents could you carry on helping your child with these because it does have a massive impact on their learning.

Hope you have a lovely half term and wish all that werent that well to get better soon.
Please post any photos of things you get up to on to tapestry so we can share as a class what you have been doing.
See you all on the 1st of November!

week 6

Janet Spencer (j.spencer) on: Reception Blog

Over this week we have looked at the number 3 again and why certain things can be 3,like tricycle, triangle.

We have added some more sounds and harder to read and spell words, please again keep practising these because they are making progress.

We looked at some musical instruments in our music lesson. We played quietly and loudly, quickly and slowly. We got a box of new instruments from Artforms which deliver music and arts. The children took turns to play a different instrument. The children listened to instruction really well.

In our literacy lesson the children have done some writing about what they did at the weekend. There was some lovely work.

We have had a technology lesson this week aswell where we have shown the children how to log in independently to our desk tops so the children can access this their selves.

We have been doing repeating patterns, looking at observing conkers as well as lots of other things.

Some children have recieved 50 house point certificates, Well done to them. Two children also got certificates from the lunch time supervisor for good manners. We also have our stars of the week this week. Well done to all our children we are really proud of you for how well you are doing and what you are achieving.

One week to go before half term.

Please can we ask that you make sure your reading and recording in your reading diary every time you do some reading as we have had to send same books back home because we didn't know if they had been read to.

Reception Blog - 2019-20

Welcoming children back.

Anna Head (a.head) on: Reception Blog - 2019-20

On Monday the 8th of June we welcomed back some children into school.

The children really adapted well to the changes. We started the day by washing our hands and continued at regular intervals throughout.

We had lessons as normal, but distances on then carpet.

It was a bit different at lunch time because we had it in the classroom but then we played out as normal.

Then we had free choice play as normal.

A good day was had by all our children.
