Happy New Year from Year 6!

a.roclawski on: Year 6 Blog

Hello!

We hope you had a wonderful new year and Christmas.

We have a really exciting term coming up full of lots of exciting work.

Our topic is South America and we will be planning most of our literacy work around the fantastic novel Trash, by Andy Mulligan.

Trash is a novel about street children in a third world South American county who stumble in to a sticky situation.

In maths our focus will be embedding and revising our maths knowledge.

Science will be looking at animals and their habitats, as well as having a short unit on the great Sir David Attenborough.

In music we will be looking at South American festivals, and we will be composing and listening to music from across South America.

Geography will be all about the different countries in South America. We will be learning map skills and delving in to the varied cultures across the continent.

PSHE will be all about well being and positive mental health. We will be teaching the children coping strategies for when they feel over whelmed and also how to cope with the big changes they will be facing in their final year of primary school.

We really look forward to seeing all parents at the SATs meeting next week, and the 1:1 drop ins.

Thank you for all your continued support.

Miss Roclawski and Mr Ryan

The Christmas Fair

a.roclawski on: Year 6 Blog

Thank you so much for all your support with our stalls for the Christmas fair!

The event went really well and we managed to raise almost £200 for our class fund!

Thank you for all donations and help, especially to Mrs Marchant and Mrs Ball who helped out on the day, and all the children who stayed after school to man the stalls.

We couldn't have done it without you!

Remembrance Sunday

a.roclawski on: Year 6 Blog

We were honoured to be invited to take part in this years Remembrance service at Gildersome Cenotaph.

Several children from year 6 rang the bell and placed a wreath on behalf of school.

A lot of other children from school were there too, representing the uniformed organisations.

We were also so proud to see some of the fantastic work that we have done over the last half term displayed both in and outside of Gildersome Village Hall!

Below are a few images, just in case you missed it.

German Afternoon

a.roclawski on: Year 6 Blog

Today in Year 6 we spent the afternoon learning all about Germany!

Germany is the chosen language for our classes and we will be having several themed afternoons throughout the year!

We looked at the culture, food and geography of the country-as well as finding out what school is like everyday for German children.

We spent a lot of the afternoon learning how to have a basic conversation in German, and learning our days of the week.

Feel free to test your children - they all did amazingly well! Or I should say 'Sehr Gut!'

In 6AR we started a Duolingo course for beginners and found it a lot of fun. You can sign up for free language courses on line and there are lots to choose from - even Klingon!

Auf Wiedersehen for now, and we'll update you soon with everything else that is going on in class!
